What causes Hamlet to say "To what base uses we may return, horatio!" and what is he suggesting?

Hamlet muses about death: about the idea that we all return to the dirt. This happens during act 5 sc 1 in the graveyard. Hamlet is consumed with impermanence of all life which certainly foreshadows his own death.
