What does Hamlet want to do to himself at the beginning of his first soliloquy? Why can't he do it?

Hamlet is thinking of "self-slaughter" or suicide. He won't do this because suicide is considered a sin in the Bible.

Or that the Everlasting had not fix'd
His canon 'gainst self-slaughter!
