The pilgrims - Why do they appear the way they do? What are they hanging around for? What is their attitude towards the native around them?

THe "pilgrims" are actually agents who are employed at the Central Station. All they want is to get a job at a trading station. They are white pudgy contemptuous people. They want to make money off ivory. They hate each other and treat the natives like dirt.
