What do the white passengers throw overboard?

The pilgrims throw rotten hippo meat overboard. The cannibal crewmembers had brought it but the stench of the meat was very bad. This is ironic because if the cannibals have no rotten hippo meat, the white pilgrims might start to look pretty good.
