Heart of Darkness
Women were not of any particular economic value to Kurtz or any other men in this novel. Being a completely patriarchal society both white and indigenous, women play a minor role if any. Kurtz had a sexual interest in the native women and this played into a sort of masculine power. He also had a number of indigenous "wives" but this was not an important theme in the story.
