Kurtz is one crazy guy. He was drawn into the heart of dearness, the Congo beckoned. He preferred the wild to the civilized. Kurtz deconstructed himself and imagined himself a demi-god of the Congo. The European steamship was a threat to Kurtz. These pudgy white pilgrims were a pestilence that, to Kurtz, wanted a piece of his glory, a piece of his world.
