Why do you suppose?

Kurtz is an enigma. He is this supernatural white demigod that lives in the jungles of the Congo. Most whites saw him as a lunatic but Marlow believes there was more to him. He felt the Congo and whatever powers lay in the ominous jungle had taken hold of Kurtz making him into this fantastic figure he has heard so much about.
