ibsen's style and her symbolism
Ibsen is spoken of as a feminist because of his strong female protagonists and because of the way he expresses their situations as tragic. In particular, the way Nora in a Doll's House or Hedda in Hedda Gabler are unable to express their individuality because their gender keeps them in an expected place, Ibsen criticizes through his work. His humanism values and explores the individual over the forces that keep us in line, and this extends to women as well.
