Henry Wadsworth Longfellow: Poems

The Rainy Day

In the first two stanzas, the author compares one element of his life to another by implying they are both crumbling. Which two words in the poem are analogous?

I see two sets in the first two stanzas:

The day is cold, and dark, and dreary; (1st)

My life is cold, and dark, and dreary; (2nd)

The vine still clings to the moldering wall, (1st)

My thoughts still cling to the moldering Past, (2nd)
