How is personal failure depicted in Hidden Figures?

Personal failure in the novel is centered around discrimination and lack of opportunity, moreso, than individual failure. It is perseverance that allows the women to overcome obstacles, and yet, equality always sets these woman apart. Dorothy, Mary, and Katherine - are among the few blacks working at a U.S. research laboratory. Dorothy stands out because she is the first woman to work as NASA's mathematician. However, despite her brilliance and job expertise, she is forced to work from an isolated room so that she does not mix with the white coworkers. NASA is subjugated by the white employees. Despite the racism and discrimination, she works hard until she is promoted to the managerial position where she ensures that Mary and Katherine are promoted too. However, they are still not allowed to work on using white computers because they are reserved for whites. Therefore, racial discrimination and inequality are evident at the NASA research center because blacks are not allowed to interact with the whites.

One example of perceived failure can be seen when Mary Jackson worked on a project, and the numbers produced from her calculation did not come out as expected. It was assumed that she made an error, but Mary stuck by her calculations, and it turned out that the division head gave her incorrect data to start with.....
