Write a diary that Kissin' Kate Barlow would have written if she had kept one.

Dear Diary....
Kate is dead, killed by a lizard’s bite.

She lived for twenty years as an
outlaw- stealing and robbing and
killing before coming back to the
dried up town of Green Lake.
Imagine that she kept a diary or
wrote a letter about her life before
she died.

Write her diary, using what you
know about Kate and her
experiences.

Include:
Why she went bad – school house burnt down and the people of Green
Lake filled with hate – Sam killed for kissing her – and her rescue from
drowning
What she did – after three days came back and killed the Sheriff after
giving him the kiss he asked for
Became an outlaw – robbing and stealing from banks for twenty years
Coming back to the dried up town of Green Lake – living in a cabin on her
own – lonely and missing Sam – thinking she was going mad

Also include:
Why she did not kill Stanley Yelnats (1st) when she robbed him – she left
him alive – why? What was so different about him?
What she thinks about all the money she has stolen. Why didn’t she
spend it?

Good news: You do not have to write twenty years of diaries!
You must choose a few key times and write about them
You could write something every New Year. You can work out the dates –
remember this all happened 100 years ago from the present day
