Roy goes to his father's office to explain everything. Roy tells his father all about Mullet Fingers except for a few details he is afraid his father can use to find Mullet Fingers. Roy then shows his father a copy of The Sibley Guide to Birds, open to the section on burrowing owls. Roy's father feels sympathetic toward Mullet Fingers's cause and promises not to cause him any trouble. That night Roy discusses Mullet Fingers's situation with his mother. Mrs. Eberhardt shows sympathy and agrees with her husband's assessment of the situation.
