What kind of person is Cathy? Why are Cathy and her family moving away from Mango Street?

Cathy is rather a snob. She befriends Esperanza when the Cordero family moves to Mango Street, but tells her their friendship will be short lived. She claims her family cannot live in a bad neighborhood like Esperanza's. Cathy tries hard to convince people that she is better than them.
