In How the Garcia Girls lost their accents, why is the time inverted? How does this technique reflect the challenges addressed by the Garcia sisters in the novel

The story is told in reverse order as it begins in 1989 and ends in 1972. By using this technique, the author allows for us, as the reader, to explore the growth of the characters, who are originally from the Dominican Republic, from a different perspective because we start getting familiar with them in America.
