1.What precious possession of David's fell in the sea?

David's compass fell into the sea.

He stood up and as he stumbled over a loose stone his compass went flying over the edge of the rock where he had been sitting. Before he could put his hand out to catch it it was too late.

All he could do was to follow it with his eyes until it disappeared into the sea so far below that he could not even hear the plop.
