(Chapter 7) Why doesn't David like dogs?

David had always thought of dogs as "enemies". While in the camp, the soldiers would pass their time by urging the dogs to bite the prisoners. Since, arriving in Italy, David was aware that people kept dogs for a variety of reasons.... not just as attack dogs. He did, however, keep a wide berth between himself and dogs just in case.
