Does God succeed, to David, in helping him?

This is really up to your interpretation. David is a Christ-figure so there is a connection that David feels he has with God. David does survive prison and does make it to Denmark despite many dangers. As soon as David reaches Copenhagen, he looks up his mother's address in a telephone book and goes to her house. She immediately recognizes him. He is home.
