What were the farmers plans for David in the book, I Am David?

The farmer plans to keep David to help on his farm. The fact that he locks David up speaks to entrapment... forced labor without choices.

The famer wants free labour on the farm. The farmer then locks david up in the barn at night so he couldn't escape. Then in the spring they wanted to give David to the Police.
