Why did David not want to play games where one person was a soldier and the others captives?

This question as three answers. First, David didn't want to play a game that reminded him of the camp. He also didn't want to play a game that in anyway resembled the limitation of personal freedom. Lastly, he believes that Maria might possibly have been trapped in the shed while playing this particular game.
