How did Joyce affect the characters in the book?

Joyce initiates Bailey into sex..... she seduces him and manipulates him into doing things that are wrong (theft). Bailey has no experience and will do anything she asks. Maya, on the other hand, is frightened by Joyce's influence over her brother. As a victim of molestation, she is cerain that Joyce's actions are very like those of Mr. Freeman.
