why was the friendship with Louise so important to marguerite

Louise is Marguerite's only "childhood" friend. In most circumstances, Marguerite is withdrawn and convinced that she is truly ugly. However, her friendship with Louise provides her with the opportunity to play and to have fun and to truly be a child.
