why does zeus suggest that is ridiculed by athena

Achilleus is chasing Hektor around the walls of Troy. Zeus ponders wheather they should let the guy die or help him out. Athena freaks out, she finds this all entertaining and besides, this is his fate. This is ironic considering the Gods play with people's fate all the time!
