In Cold Blood

Perry calls Wilie-Jay his one and only true friend. Is this a good example of friendship why or why not?

Based on the relationship developed over the first two parts of the novel.

Willie-Jay was a true friend to Perry. He was honest, respectful of his friend's feelings, and did his best to turn Perry's life around. Older than Perry, he easily saw that the most important thing his friend was lacking was a sense of self-esteem. He became Perry's mentor, ally, and confidant. In the end, Perry walked away from this friendship because Willie-Jay encouraged him to make religion a part of his reform. Unfortunately, Perry wanted nothing to do with religion because of his prior experiences with the nuns in the orphange.
