Was Perry sorry for his crime?

when he spoke to Don Cullivan, he says that he feels no remorse. His last few words are that he does applogize, however meaningless or inappropriate that may seem. So in the end, is he at all sorry?

Don Cullivan, a man with whom Perry served in the army, visits Perry before his execution. Perry tells Don that the truth of the matter is that he is not sorry regretful for his crime. I don't think there is any evidence that Perry changed his mind.
