This is quite a lot to cover for this space. I think the fundamental difference between the two lies in how they perceive crime. The two quibble over the question of whether the crime can be traced to them; in the course of the argument, Perry is hyper-aware of the circumstances and the possibility of rebuke, whereas Dick is self-assured, almost to the point of recklessness. This marks a fundamental point of difference between the two men: Perry, always sizing up the opposition and measuring himself against a persecuting world, and Dick, carefree, barely cognizant of the potential consequences of his actions.
