Men....... which men? There are fathers, brothers, lovers, wanna be lovers, children, rapists, you name it.... they're depicted.
In Chapter 7, Maria Therese dreams about all the men in her life beginning with her father. He's just died, and she is having an awful time adjusting to his death.
