The Mirabel sisters actions and beliefs were embraced throughout the country, making them a threat to Trujillo's government. Trujillo believed that if he rid himself of the sisters, the threat they posed to his government would disappear. His plans backfired, as their deaths only served to further their cause for democracy and civil rights.
