Why were people interested in Dede's story?

The Mirabal sisters were four Dominican political girls who opposed the brutal dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo. On November 25, 1960, three of the sisters were assassinated. This story,much of it fictional, is told by Dede the only surviving sister. THe story is a riveting tale not of just courage but sibling and female bravery in the midst of oppression.
