Based on what you've read so far, what role do you think storytelling and legends play in the novel?

Saul uses the storytelling and legends he hears as metaphors for his life. They become his lifeline and identity when he enters the Residential schools as well as the white world. They are a link with his indigenous essence that is assaulted by both school and when alcohol infect him.
