I think, for aboriginals, they would have gotten along just fine without the white man. We know what European forces and settlers brought: disease, alcohol, guns, steel....Your question is however hypothetical in the sense that change was bound to happen. It is unfortunate aboriginal peoples were taken advantage of in such a harsh way.
