Saul's aunt was a product of the white school system which hammered the Catholic faith into the children. Saul's aunt felt giving thanks to the creator should be done in a Catholic way, "We should pray with the rosary and give thanks the proper way." The significance is the clash between ancient indigenous practices with that of the white man that sought to assimilate aboriginal culture into white culture.
