Later on Saul experiences some racism while playing for the team. When Saul’s team, the Manitouwadge Moose, begin playing (and beating) non-Indigenous teams, they are subjected to violent harassment from fans and opponents alike.

As mentioned before, I don't really think that Saul healed from this trauma. Ultimately Saul revisits his places of both trauma and solace to find some perspective outside of his drinking; his shame, and his guilt. Visiting places like God's Lake and the now abandoned St. Jerome's school helps bring Saul some closure. Counselling at the New Dawn Centre might have helped more than he knew.
