Saul finds family again with Fred Kelly. Here, Virgil can begin healing and find some respite from the school and his past. Saul is accepted into the Kelly family. Both Fred and his wife have been through the hell of residential school: they offer support both by talking and by silence. The Kelly family also gives Saul an extended hockey family through hockey and the native league. Saul finds purpose, identity, and the magic of hockey. Saul travels from place to place with his team finding a welcoming community which celebrate hockey and their native identity. Perhaps for the first time in his life, Saul feels a sense of peace and contentment.
