Discribe the similarities between Chris and Wayne Westerberg?
Early in Chris's journey/ pilgrimage to Alaska, he meets up with Wayne. Chris takes an instant liking to him because Wayne does not judge him. Westerberg is a wheat farmer who, like Chris, doesn't live completely by the rules. It is alluded to that he was arrested for making TV de-scramblers. Wayne represents a middle class that is unlike his father's. Chris sees Wayne as a sort of new age hippie not confined to the shackles of materialism. Although the two get along, long term relationships scare Chris. Unlike Wayne, Chris refuses to be "tied" down to anything. Chris is soon gone, back on his journey of personal "enlightenment".
