Do you believe McCandles's decide to leave his family without a word was justified?

In a perfect world, Chris would have had the decency to tell his parents what he was going to do. Instead, he punished them and let them worry. Something as simple as a letter would have made a huge difference, but Chris was too selfish to give them even that. He believed he was justified, as an outsider..... I do not.
