In my opinion, the epigraphs give us a personal look at Christopher McCandless..... not from the people who write about him, or judge his actions, but from the people who met him during this time in his life. Each of the epigraphs reveals Chris as a person..... most notably his finer points..... the young man who could make friends anywhere.
