No, Chris entered the wilderness to isolate himself, to prove he didn't need anyone or anything to survive, to cast off the expectations of his family. Everett's self-imposed isolation was a search for beauty.... he wanted to experience the magnificence of our natural world.
What Everett Ruess was after was beauty, and he conceived beauty in romantic terms. We might be inclined to laugh at the extravagance of his beauty-worship if there were not something almost magnificent in his single-minded dedication to it.
