Chris was not cut out to live the life of a minimalist hermit. His anger, over his father's philandering, seems to have pushed him towards rejecting the modern world and the people who care about him. Chris held very romantic notions that he could be like a modern day Thoreau and live life separated from what makes us all human. . Chris discovers too late what most of us already know: Chris is a social person who needed other people. Chris lived under the allusion that he could reject others and lives a life of solitude in the Alaskan wilderness. His romanticism was at odds with his lack of practicality. Chris's very polarizing philosophy wrote the narrative of his own demise. People, especially people like Chris, were not meant to live alone and unprepared in the wilderness.
