Krakauer uses a clipping from the New York times to set up chapter 10. The news story concerns the finding of Chris's remains in Alaska. This segues into all the people that knew Chris along his journey. On one of his employment forms, McCandless had put his real name and social security number, and from that the troopers find that he was from Virginia but that is about it.
