I like the narrative frame or circle. Krakauer is able to circle Chris's life many times filling in details to help our understanding of Chris. By the final circle, the reader has enough information to at least glimpse into the workings of Chris's mind. His death in Alaska is a cumulative reflection on his life. The reader is left at the same spot they started at. Whether Chris was right or wrong begins to be shrouded behind the harsh realities of the Alaskan wilderness.
