What car did Chris drive? What did it represent?

McCandless buys a secondhand yellow Datsun in high school with money he earned from selling construction contracts one summer. Chris becomes attached to it refusing to drive a newer car offered by his parents. Eventually Chris abandons that attachment in a flood.
