In Chapter Six, Krakauer uses Ronald Franz as an example of the way people quickly grew attached to McCandless. As a result of knowing Chris, Franz changes his own lifestyle completely. He even wants to adopt him. Chris, however, accepts a fair amount of help from Franz, but he leaves departs before Franz can expects too much from him. Sadly, McCandless’s death causes Franz to lose his strong faith in God, and to take up drinking again.
