like if its possible to escape from
civilization in the twenty-first century? Does it make sense to try?
Chris wanted freedom, and yes, he was able to escape civilization, but he also paid for that escape with his life.
Does it make sense to try....... sure, if you take the time to carefully prepare and have thought everything through. Plans, back up plans, some type of communication, better knowledge of the lay of the land. What Chris did turned out the way it did because he threw all caution to the wind...... that you cannot do.

Unfortunately, Chris escapes the "poison" of the civilization he flees, to be poisoned by the nature surrounding him.
