If your question pertains to the first chapter, Mrs. Hall was excited to have a paying guest..... something that was rare in the winter months.
A guest to stop at Iping in the wintertime was an unheard-of piece of luck, let alone a guest who was no "haggler," and she was resolved to show herself worth of her good fortune.
