Byronic heroes are defined as a men (women) who fill all the heroic requirements, but who also still have noticeable flaws as human beings. Rochester fills these requirements; he falls in love with an independent and outspoken woman, whom he views as an equal (greatly unheard of at the time). He has a troubled past, is a loner, and is quite complex as a character.
