Jane Eyre
what are the major influences in Jane's Life
positive and negative
positive and negative
I guess Jane just really wants to be loved without sacrificing her dignity. She wants to marry Rochester but can't while he is legally married (she doesn't want to be the mistress!)At the same time she is drawn to her work at Moor House. She feels a sense of independence . There, she enjoys economic independence as well as helping the poor. She does not, however, feel the love, so to speak. She has suitors but none that she wants. Being an orphan makes Jane feel alone. Her aunt and cousins treat her badly and in many ways feels resigned to her lot in life. Jane searches for freedom and love but, in her world, the two often don’t go hand in hand. These are some of the influences that I see pulling at Jane throughout the novel.
