This statement simply alludes to the fact that if the colonists were without unity.... without a common purpose, they would never have been able to prevail in their war against the British. This unity included the uses of certain gifts.... horseman who could ride (Revere), young boys (Johnny) who could move about unnoticed and gather intelligence.
