What are reasons why Johnny should/should not let the doctor look at his hand?

I can't imagine any reason for Johnny not wanting the doctor to see his hand..... the worst news he could get was that nothing could be done, which he already believed anyway. Reasons for allowing the doctor to look at his hand far outweighed the negatives. The pros run from regaining partial use of his hand to possibly regaining everything he'd lost. He has nothing to lose.
