What was Johnny's role in giving the message to the Minute Men?

When Johnny discovers the British are planning an attack on Lexington and Concord, he passes on the information to Paul Revere and Doc Warren. Johnny is then sent to inform Robert Newman, who is the church sexton, that he needs to place two lanterns in the church's spire and spy on the ships in the Charles.
