Why was Johnny happy that Cilla and Isannah were insulting him again?

Since Johnny accident and Mr. Lapham's announcement that Johnny would no longer be needed, a wall went up between Johnny and the girls. The wall came down after the trial.... insults and teasing were a welcome change. In essence, they were normal.
